StarGrange was founded by John Connolly

He has extensive experience of setting up specialist technology businesses and taking them from concept through to profitability.

Having run businesses based on a very broad range of technologies, including web, mobile, desktop, DVD, IPTV, broadcast, mobile apps, and SaaS software, the majority of his time at StarGrange is now spent as an independent consultant advising on business operations and technical strategy.

He also sits on the boards of a number of tech start-ups, advises private equity groups on technology investments, is Co-Founder of the Centre For Digital Innovation, helps organise the HDLive Conferences, and acts as a non-exec director for a couple of charities.

Recent Work

After working with a number of web start-ups and running a successful web development agency, he was one of the co-founders of Element Interactive. Element is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading technical DVD authoring houses.

When Apple released their App developer tools, the opportunity was clear for rights holders constrained by complex distribution models, companies held back by high development costs, and startups struggling for exposure.  As one of the first iPhone Application Developers in the UK, John then built an iPhone Application Development business to capitalise on this new sector.  Having worked on over 100 Apps, he has produced Apps that have generated fantastic revenue and profile for his clients.

He studied Electronic Engineering at Dundee University for a bit, has a degree in Computing Science from Newcastle University, and was educated at Hymers College.
