Open Learning
I’ve been watching the excellent CS193P lectures at Stanford over the last week. The lectures are also available through iTunes U, and have unofficial Twitter and Google Groups followings.
Providing lecture content to the public in the way that Stanford have, really is excellent. Whilst there’s no substitute for tutorials and lab time, the online communities that have sprung up around CS193P provide some really good forums for engaging with other developers and for collaborative learning.
So far, the course is giving a great introduction to developing on the iPhone, and it’s exciting seeing how the coursework projects have been developing.
For anyone else looking at the course, there are some great books that I’ve found helpful with my development work Cocoa Programming For Mac OS X, The iPhone Developer’s Cookbook, and of course Apple’s excellent online documentation.
